Barret Spencer Oliver (born August 24, 1973 in Los Angeles, California) is an American former child actor. He is best known for his role as Bastian Balthazar Bux in the film adaptation of Michael Ende's novel The Neverending Story.


  • Oliver currently works as a photographer and printer, using 19th century methods. He has even published a book: A History of the Woodburytype.
    • Ironically, his character in The Neverending Story was obsessed with books.
  • He is the youngest of 2 sons; his older brother Kyle is 3 years older than him.
  • In 1985, Oliver won a Saturn Award and was nominated a Young Artist Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture for his performance as Daryl in D.A.R.Y.L.
